Scientists from Sweden's Lund University have recently developed an indium phosphide (InP) nanowire solar cell with an efficiency of 13.8%, which has reached a level comparable to that of flat InP cells. Its research results have been published in a new issue of science journals.
The researchers fabricated millimeter-sized arrays of nanowires on a substrate. The diameter of these nanowires was only 180 nanometers. Nanowires covered only 12% of the substrate, but their photocurrents accounted for 71% of the total. . The researchers also found that despite the fact that the specific surface area of nanowire structures has increased 30-fold over the past, surface recombination should bring about a certain voltage loss, but the open-circuit voltage is still as high as 0.906V.
One of the authors of the study, Magnus Borgström, a researcher at Lund University, said, "Our results have for the first time confirmed to the people the possibility of using nanowires to make solar cells." He said, "The size of nanowires is increasing. The absorption of light is critical, and even if the difference is only a few dozen nanometers, the light trapping performance of the nanowires will be greatly reduced."
This achievement is part of the “One-dimensional Nanowire Photovoltaic Materials Research and Application†project (AMON-RA), led by Professor Knut Deppert of the Department of Physics of the university, which was funded by the European Union.
Small Leaf Acacia Hardwood Flooring
Small leaf Acacia Hardwood Floor is becoming increasingly popular in recently years with its unique colors and properties. It`s one of best hardwood species instead of American walnut from Asia. Small leaf Acacia (which also known as short leaf Acacia) wood is to some extent better than American Walnut in hardness and durability, whose hardness with more than 2000 psi comparing with 1010 psi of American Walnut wood.
