South African gold production fell by 6.4 in 2010

According to foreign reports, the South African Mining Association (Chamber of Mines) said on Monday that South African gold output fell to about 192 tons in 2010 due to continuous decline in production of several hundred-year-old mines.

According to the Mining Association, total gold production fell by 6.4% last year, and the average grade of the mine decreased by 7.6%, resulting in less production of 0.11 ounces (3.04 grams) of gold per ton of ore.

South Africa first discovered gold in 1886. The depth of gold mining is among the highest in the world, reaching a depth of 3.2 kilometers. South Africa's gold production accounted for about 70% of global production in the 1970s, and the proportion has gradually declined since then. Now China, Australia, and the United States are catching up.
