The experts of the participating academicians made measures to strengthen cooperation and strive to make new breakthroughs in the field of high-power laser materials.
Fan Qiyuan, the chairman of the conference and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, proposed in the keynote report of "Development Status and Trends of Laser Materials for Inertial Confinement Nuclear Fusion Systems" that laser technology is one of the eight cutting-edge technologies in China's medium and long-term science and technology planning. Among them, laser materials are the core and foundation of laser technology development, and have milestone significance and role in the development of laser technology.
Experts attending the conference said that the laser manufacturing industry is developing rapidly in China and infiltrating into various industries and fields, especially the application of laser weapon technology and the application of laser inertial confinement fusion technology. At present, the United States, Japan, the European Union, Russia and other countries and regions are vigorously developing laser inertial confinement nuclear fusion technology, and China has also listed the laser fusion ignition project as one of the 16 major scientific and technological projects. The current fusion laser driver uses erbium-doped glass as the gain medium, but because of the low thermal conductivity of the glass, the ability of the laser system to repeat the frequency operation is limited. At the same time, the existing erbium-doped laser glass cannot meet the requirements of the fusion energy laser driver. Therefore, there is an urgent need to find laser materials with better performance.
