Starting this year, China will impose zero tariffs on polyvinyl chloride in five ASEAN countries.

This year marks the third year of the establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. From January 1 this year, China began to impose tariffs on imports of PVC from Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Brunei, and Singapore. Decrease to 0%. According to China's chlor-alkali network market analysts, the tariff adjustment will not have a significant impact on China's PVC market.

On the one hand, the number of PVCs exported to China over the past five years has been very limited. According to China's chlor-alkali network statistics, Thailand's total PVC exports to China in 2011 were 34,000 tons, Malaysia was 57,000 tons, and Singapore, Myanmar, and Brunei totaled 0.003 million tons. Compared to 2011, China's PVC imports of 1.045 million tons of pure powder can be said to be very small.

On the Other hand, unlike most domestic companies adopting calcium carbide process PVC technology, Southeast Asian countries generally adopt the ethylene process. As the recent international crude oil price has been in a high level of turmoil, it also makes ethylene PVC manufacturers bear greater cost pressures. In addition, the current tension between Iran and Western countries has also played a role in supporting crude oil prices to some extent.

With further cooperation between China and ASEAN, China-ASEAN Free Trade Area will also bring more opportunities and challenges for the bilateral chlor-alkali product trade.
