As the competition in the automotive industry intensifies, major automakers are paying more and more attention to the investment in the automotive research and development (referred to as “automotive researchâ€), because this stage will not only affect the quality of new models, but also greatly affect the launch of new models. Speed, and even decide whether the new models will be successful in the market. Therefore, attaching importance to auto research and winning at the starting line has become an important measure for major auto companies to enhance their competitiveness. High-precision testing is the key to the concept and verification concept in the automotive research phase. All well-known big car manufacturers are never afraid to invest in this stage. In recent years, with the development of high-precision testing technology, the high-precision testing methods in the steam research stage are constantly improving, and the performance and efficiency are improved. This article will discuss the car sludge model production and testing, the concept and solution of vehicle testing.
Production and testing of automobile sludge model
The production of the sludge model is generally carried out through conceptual design, 1:4 model making, point cloud acquisition, digital model building, optimization design, 1:1 model making, viewing angle and size review. In this process, two links are very important, namely point cloud acquisition and 1:1 model production. Traditionally, these two links have often been implemented using “measuring machines + cutting devicesâ€, which were adopted by some car manufacturers in Europe and America. However, the shortcomings of the scheme are obvious: the scope of measurement and processing is limited by the travel of the measuring machine; the measuring machine requires a dedicated foundation and machine room, and the peripheral investment is huge; the working site is fixed, and it is impossible to achieve "portable" processing and measurement; The grating and rail system not only waste resources but also affect the accuracy of the measuring machine; the investment in cutting and measuring equipment is huge.
Based on actual needs and considerations of traditional approaches, the Hexagon Group Romer invented the ROMOCUT system. The system completely overcomes the shortcomings of traditional measuring and cutting equipment, and has become the best choice for European and American car companies to replace traditional solutions.
The ROMOCUT system (see Figure 1) contains a mobile robot base, robot, cutting head, vacuum system, articulated arm measuring machine or laser tracker, software and computer. The system firstly uses the Leica laser tracker to accurately compensate the position of the robot space, eliminating the robot's own position error. Secondly, ROMOCUT implements movable cutting by using a cutting device mounted on the robot. With the position-compensated ROMOCUT, the cutting accuracy can achieve a path repeatability of 0.12 mm and an area accuracy of 0.17 mm.

Finally, the detection of the sludge model can be achieved by installing a white light lens on the robot or using an articulated arm measuring machine. The perfect integration of automated robots, machining and portable measuring systems has greatly improved the accuracy and efficiency of the sludge model. Reliable flexibility and portability have also become another reason why the ROMOCUT system has been well received by frontline personnel.
