Disk hob quenching process

In the production process of tinplate beverage cans, the disc hob is mainly used to complete the slitting process of small pieces of iron. Its precision requirements are very strict and the manufacturing process requirements are also very high. The heat treatment quenching process is the key in production.
The original production is made of T10 steel. In order to ensure hardness and wear resistance during quenching, water quenching and oil cooling are adopted. Due to the large section change of the hob, the water quenching and oil cooling cause great stress and the cracking tends to be large. The scrap rate is as high as 3%.
After repeated trial and error, our company changed to use Cr12, Cr12MoV or 9SiCr alloy steel, greatly reducing the deformation and cracking during quenching, and reducing the scrap rate.
The heat treatment process for the hob made of Cr12, Cr12MoV or 9SiCr alloy steel is: In a fully deoxidized salt bath, it is heated to 980 degrees (or 1200 degrees Celsius) and then kept warm for about 30 minutes. Salt bath After pre-cooling for about 1 minute, oil cooling. After the treatment is completed, the deformation is very small, there is no cracking phenomenon, and the hardness reaches above HRc60. Through the use of the blade, the hardness was found to be somewhat lower and the service life was shorter. Thus, the process was improved: first, the quenching time was shortened, the pre-cooling after the furnace was removed, and the oil was quickly introduced into the oil. Because after pre-heat treatment, the structure has been evenly refined, plus the blade is thin, as long as the edge of the organization to ensure that the transformation is completely uniform, after quenching to get the ideal organization, cancel the pre-cooling to avoid the blade temperature drop too much, affect Quenching hardness.
After several years of practice, it has been proved that with the above process, the blade hardness can reach >HRc62. After grinding, small deformations can be eliminated without cracks. The qualification rate is 100%, the service life is obviously increased, and the labor efficiency is greatly improved.
