Sheet bending forming is an elastoplastic deformation. After sheet metal forming, the plastic deformation of the sheet remains, and the elastic deformation portion is restored, which changes the size of the sheet metal. How to accurately predict the amount of rebound after sheet metal forming is the key to successfully design a sheet metal mold. ALGOR is a new generation CAE analysis tool. It has been widely used in many fields, and it is easy to operate and is very suitable for engineers and technicians.
Design mold
The sheet metal parts are shown in Figure 1. The design of the mold (including the upper and lower molds) is shown in Figure 2.
2. Building a model
Establish a finite element analysis model (including molds and sheets, see Figure 3) in ALGOR.
Define the unit type, material, constraints, loads, and related solution parameters, run the analysis, and get the following results (see Figure 4).
Figure 4 shows the Z-direction displacement cloud after the sheet metal, from which we can see that it has obvious rebound phenomenon. Take one of the Z-direction displacement changes, from which you can directly calculate the rebound amount (see Figure 5).
3. Analysis results
According to the analysis results, the finite element model of the mold is adjusted in ALGOR, and the analysis is performed again. If this modification, the obtained result meets the dimensional requirements of the sheet metal part, it can be used for processing and manufacturing, otherwise the finite element model is needed. Make changes again.
4. Conclusion
Through the finite element analysis of the sheet metal process by ALGOR, not only accurate result data can be obtained, but also the design cycle can be greatly shortened and the production cost can be saved. In recent years, CAE software has become more and more widely used in industrial production, but most CAE softwares are complicated to operate, difficult to learn, and subject to many restrictions in use. However, ALGOR operation is simple and easy to use and powerful. I believe that in the near future, Its application will be more widely promoted.
