Science and Technology A smart umbrella named Weatherman, debuted on Thursday, uses a special application to pair with a Bluetooth embedded tracker chip to predict weather for users. The app also sends live weather alerts and custom notifications to let users know when to bring an umbrella.
The Weatherman Smart Umbrella uses the latest Bluetooth 4.1 technology to locate the umbrella on the user's smart device to ensure it is never lost or pulled down. This also means that you may find your umbrella caught in the hands of others. The umbrella itself consists of 14mm glass fiber ribs and shafts, helping to avoid breaking and turning in strong winds and resisting strong winds up to 55 miles per hour. The umbrella cloth itself is coated with PTFE to drive off the rain.
The Smart Umbrella was developed by meteorologist Rick Reichmuth. There are two versions of Weatherman: the collapsible umbrella retails for $59, and the non-collapsible price is $65. Both umbrellas are available in black, dark blue, green, orange, yellow and white. .
