According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, a road made of plastic bags, recycled printer cartridges and glass bottles was completed in northern Melbourne, Australia.

According to reports, a company in northern Melbourne built about 300 meters of roads using 530,000 plastic bags, 12,000 recycled printer cartridges and 168,000 glass bottles.

Craig Devlin, chairman of the project, said that the road is better and more durable than traditional pavements, and it also makes good use of the waste that would otherwise need to be landfilled.

Pavement tests have shown that roads built with rubbish can remain stable in the face of extreme temperatures. At the same time, it costs roughly the same as the cost of laying traditional roads. This is the first time that road additives have been used to build pavements, and the results have also shocked the recycling companies behind them. It is reported that road additives have been developed using the US$40,000 of the $2.5 million in the Victorian government's support for waste recycling research and development.

Robert Spencer of the Victorian Municipal Council believes that this move can help alleviate the pressure on the local councils after China bans the recycling of foreign garbage. He also said that due to cost issues such as additives, road construction may be reformed after five years.
